A pen and ink drawing of Joan Miro using horizontal line to establish value. The image is based on a 1935 photograph by Carl Van Vechten. Miro is one of my favorite artists and has been an influence in subtle ways on the work I do.

We had an assignment for three works of art of the same subject, each in the style of a different artist that we admired. The third artist I chose, Joan Miro, is one of my absolute favorites. This is also my favorite of the three papermill paintings. The most effort was also devoted to this one, as there were many preliminary sketches playing with different ways of representing the structures of the mill. I have had some requests, so I am considering having a series of prints.

We had an assignment for three works of art of the same subject, each in the style of a different artist that we admired. I choose to work in the style of Luigi Loir for Canton Papermill II. It doesn’t capture his style much at all, in my opinion. The muted melancholy color palette is fair enough. The greater struggle was seeing light rather than objects, which is where I feel Loir works from.
